These recent months have been bursting at the seams with incredible YA books by Latinx authors, from Everything Within and In Between and Infinity Reaper, to Once Upon a Quinceñera and Aristotle and Dante Dive Into the Waters of the World. These months have also been difficult ones: being Latinx in the United States still comes with challenges like racial-ethnic bias, acculturation stress, and ICE policy concerns. Latinx creators, readers, booksellers, and librarians are vital members of our Epic Reads community, and now more than ever it’s imperative that we protect, uplift, and celebrate their voices.
So let’s promote Latinx-owned bookstores. Let’s continue to engage with Latinx art and writing (check out this September 2021 book release list from Latinx in Publishing). When funds are low, let’s request books, ebooks, and audiobooks by Latinx authors at our local libraries, making them accessible to other members of our communities.
